Clarity Sought In Glasgow

July 16, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: As a former town council member and a business owner in the town of Glasgow, I recently attended a meeting of the Glasgow Town Council on July 14 and left with several concerns regarding the conduct of the meeting and the importance of transparency in local government.

During the meeting, I observed what appeared to be a lack of adherence to the Roberts Rules of Order. These rules are intended for fair, orderly and transparent meetings.

I also was surprised to learn the town manager position had changed from a male town manager to a female town manager. I am not aware of any public meeting or official action where this transition was discussed. In addition, I also learned that these two town managers are married to each other. When citizens at the meeting question the change in town managers, council refused to address the issue presented to them.

I believe the citizens of Glasgow deserve clarity when and how this change occurred. A transparent government and an informed public are essential to maintaining trust in our community. SARAH FUNKHOUSER Glasgow
