The G-rated Walt Disney movie “Peter Pan” was playing at the State Theater. The X-rated picture “Blazing Bosoms” titillated audiences at the Lyric Cinema.
- Joe Martin of Lexington celebrated the nation’s birthday by running in the Peachtree Road race in Atlanta, Ga. As one of the senior runners in the race, Martin was interviewed by the Atlanta Constitution and was pictured in the paper warming up for the run. -A break-in at Georgia Bonded Fibers resulted in $10,000 worth of damage to the Buena Vista plant.

Hundreds of people packed the Buena Vista firehouse to confront city council over steep increases in personal property taxes. - First Baptist Church in Lexington and Hickory Hill on Forge Road were among 31 properties added to the Virginia Landmarks Registry. - The Rockbridge Regional Fair got off to a hot start at the Virginia Horse Center.
