Leading the worship service at Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July 12, was Elder Mike Adams. Following the service, the church family enjoyed fellowship and “Lemonade on the Lawn. On Sunday, July 19, Greg Jewitt will lead the 11 a.m. worship service.
Rockbridge CAN (Connect and Nourish) will hold a free community dinner, professionally catered and served dine-in style at the Palmer Community Center today, Wednesday, July 15, from 6 to 7 p.m. Community residents are invited to attend.
Effinger Volunteer Fire Department’s annual raffle fundraiser is underway. This year’s grand prize is $5,000, among other great prizes. Raffle tickets may be purchased from any fire department member. The raffle drawing will take place on Saturday, July 25, after the department’s second barbecue chicken sale of the summer season. The barbecue is scheduled to begin at noon. The cost of a barbecue chicken dinner is $14 and includes chicken, a choice of two sides, applesauce, a roll and freshly made sweet or unsweet tea. A half chicken only can be purchased for $8. Payment must be made in cash or by check. Seating will be available for those wishing to dine in.
The sale of the 2027 Effinger Community Birthday Calendar has begun. The cost of the calendar is $4. Birthday, anniversary and memorial listings are 35 cents each. Calendars and listings may be purchased by contacting an Effinger Ruritan Club member. The 2027 calendar will be the 50th edition of the Effinger Community Birthday Calendar. Calendar purchases may be made through Aug. 31.
The annual Palmer Ice Cream Supper, sponsored by the Effinger Ruritan Club, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Palmer Community Center. Volunteers are needed to help with the event. Contact any Ruritan Club member to volunteer.
