Due to ongoing drought conditions and declining water levels in the Maury River, the Maury Service Authority is asking its customers in Rockbridge County and Lexington to voluntarily reduce nonessential water use out of an abundance of caution.
“While our water system continues to operate normally, taking simple conservation steps now will help ensure a reliable water supply for essential needs like drinking water, sanitation and fire protection," said an MSA spokesperson last week.
Here are a few ways everyone can help: Water lawns and gardens during the coolest parts of the day (before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m.) to reduce evaporation.
Limit nonessential outdoor water use by sweeping driveways and side- walks instead of hosing them ou. If washing your vehicle, use a bucket or a hose with an automatic shut-off nozzle.
Conserve indoors by taking shorter showers, fixing household leaks, and only running full loads in dishwashers and washing machines.
Commercial and industrial customers are encouraged to reduce outdoor watering and other non-essential water use whenever possible.
“At this time, these conservation measures are voluntary,” emphasized the spokesperson. “We will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as needed.
“Thank you for helping protect our shared water resources. Every drop counts, and we appreciate your partnership in conserving water for our community.”
