July 6, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: When living in Texas it was commonplace to see a businessman wearing a cowboy hat, but in downtown Lexington?
That was my last encounter with Frank Friedman. He had attended an early morning meeting at the Virginia Horse Center and was given the Western hat.
Frank always had time for a sidewalk chat or friendly greeting to everyone. How did he ever make it to work on time? His memory of names and events was encyclopedic. He was an amazing mayor and person. He will be greatly missed.
My sympathy to Melissa and his family.
