Lexington Presbyterian Church will present three Music at Noon programs on Wednesdays in July. The concerts continue the church’s decades-long practice of short mid-day performances.
This month’s series will begin on Wednesday, July 15, and will feature tenor Scott Williamson and pianist William McCorkle. The program will include vocal and keyboard works by the 20th-century French composer Maurice Ravel, and vocal works by American composers Leonard Bernstein, Gerald Cohen and Stephen Richards.
Williamson is well-known locally and throughout Virginia as a tenor vocalist and conductor. He has taught at Washington and Lee University and served as executive director of Opera Roanoke. He appears regularly as soloist and associate conductor with the Rockbridge Chorus.
McCorkle, director of music at Lexington Presbyterian, has performed locally for decades as keyboard soloist and collaborator, and as director of the Rockbridge Chorus.
There will follow two more Music at Noon programs in the coming weeks. On Wednesday, July 22, baritone Charles Blueweiss, with pianist William McCorkle, will present the song cycle “A Garland of Roses” by the 20th-century English composer Gerard Finzi. Roanoke-based musician Blueweiss has appeared frequently in recent years with the Rockbridge Chorus, notably in the 2025 performance of works by Gilbert and Sullivan.
On Wednesday, July 29, tenor Adam Williams, accompanying himself on the guitar, will offer a program of classic songs from the early 1960s to the mid-to-late 1970s, featuring songs by Elivs Presley, the Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and more. Williams is an active church musician in Roanoke and is a member of the vocal faculty at Hollins University.
His numerous performances with the Rockbridge Chorus have included repertoire ranging from 16th-century English composer Orlando Gibbons to Gilbert and Sullivan operettas to Queen.
