Oppressive Heat For Food Fest

With temperatures over 100 degrees, this was one of the hottest evenings ever for the Freedom Food Festival on Friday. AT TOP LEFT, a picture of Lexington Mayor Frank Friedman was displayed in Courthouse Square. Friedman, always a big supporter of the festival, died the day before. AT TOP RIGHT, picnic tables were available for diners and the Lexington Presbyterian Church opened its fellowship hall to those who couldn’t stand the heat.AT LEFT, Celebrity chef Steve Landgraf created barbecue chicken sandwiches, roasted potatoes and tomato-cucumber salad for Yellow Brick Road Early Learning Center’s entry. BELOW, Friends of Natural Bridge State Park prepared Virginia whiskey and ginger pulled pork on a pretzel roll, Maine lobster mac and cheese, Tennessee hillbilly slaw and a watermelon wedge.
