During the Rockbridge Historical Society’s May “History Hike” to a former Freedmen’s Settlement on the Appalachian Trail, U.S. Forest Service Ranger Megan Martin describes conservation efforts in the Rockbridge area and the A.T. at large, including the engineering project to install a new single log bridge that year that the group visited near the Lynchburg Reservoir. The History Hike was also led by Don Gaylord, Washington and Lee University research archaeologist and instructor in anthropology, and Eric Wilson, Rockbridge Historical Society executive director and regional co-chair, RockbridgeVA250.
