Emergency services responded to an incident at Lime Kiln Theater Friday evening where a man was reported to be losing blood.
Rockbridge County Sheriff Tony McFaddin, who was in attendance at the concert being held at the theater that evening, told The News-Gazette on Tuesday that he first became aware of the incident when he noticed people gathering in one area of the theater and saw them grab several sheriff’s deputies who were also in attendance.
McFaddin went to see what was going on and said he saw a man lying on the ground and that some people had started CPR. McFaddin said that he and the deputies provided crowd control and that some nurses in attendance also assisted with CPR until the ambulance arrived. The individual was transported to the hospital and was pronounced dead upon arrival.
“We thank the first responders, EMS, law enforcement, and staff who acted as quickly as possible to provide aid and care,” Spencer McElroy, executive director of Lime Kiln Theater, said in a statement. “Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and individual involved.”
McFaddin said that he would be working with the theater and local EMS responders to review the response to the incident and theater’s policies and procedures for these kinds of incidents to see what else could be done for any future incidents.
