Candidates have been lining up to run in the Nov. 3 local elections. The filing deadline for most of these elections was yesterday, Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 7 p.m. – three hours past this newspaper’s press deadline.
Three candidates have qualified to get their names on the ballot for three Lexington City Council seats – incumbent David Sigler, Meghan Ferguson and Amber Ansted. The other two incumbents whose terms expire this year are Chuck Smith and Nicholas Betts.
For the Lexington School Board, which is completing the transition from appointed to elected members, Justin Davis has been certi- fied as a candidate for one of two seats that will be on the ballot. Those seats are currently held by Katie Shester and LaTonya Douglas.
In Goshen, Mayor Tom Mc-Craw has been certified to be a candidate for reelection, as have Town Council members Derrick Ogden, Chris Robertson and Michael Hicks. Challenger Jeff Shaffer has also qualified to get his name on the ballot.
Candidates who have been certified to have their names on the ballot to run for three Glasgow Town Council seats are incumbents Brandal Branch, Marcie Hill and Natalie Harris and challenger Kris Springer.
Toria Brown, recently appointed to be the Walkers Creek member of the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors on an interim basis, is in the process of becoming a candidate to fill the remaining three years of a four-year term.
In Buena Vista, Mike Cartalaro has qualified to be a candidate for the School Board seat currently held by interim member Mack Felts. William Kerr has picked up a candidates’ packet to run for the City Council seat he is currently holding on an interim basis.
The deadline for candidates to file for the Lexington, Goshen and Glasgow elections and the Buena Vista School Board special election was yesterday. The filing deadline for the Buena Vista City Council and Board of Supervisors Walkers Creek seat special elections is Aug. 14.
