In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Rockbridge Regional Library in Lexington is inviting community members of all ages to help create a lasting record of life in Lexington through the Voices of Lexington: America 250 Community Time Capsule Project.
The project seeks to capture the voices, memories, experiences, and creativity of today’s residents for future generations. Community members are encouraged to submit letters, photographs, artwork, stories, poems, favorite memories, descriptions of daily life, reflections on community events, messages to future residents, and other flat, letter-sized items that reflect life in Lexington in 2026. The time capsule will remain buried for 50 years, to be unearthed in 2076.
Submissions may include favorite memories, descriptions of daily life, and reflections on community events, messages to future residents, artwork, or photographs.
Items will be collected through July 17 and reviewed for inclusion. The completed capsule will serve as a snapshot of Lexington during the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration and preserve the stories of the people who call this community home.
