The Effinger community vacation Bible school had a successful week at the Palmer Community Center. This year’s VBS had an average nightly attendance of 63 children and adults. A closing exercise was held on Thursday, June 11, for all participants and their families. Classes shared scripture and songs they had learned during the week and were recognized with certificates of attendance. Following the closing, a covered-dish dinner was enjoyed by all in attendance. VBS participants also conducted a penny challenge raising $1000 to support and assist the local Unity4Kids ministry.
The Rev. Skip Hastings led the worship service at the Collierstown Presbyterian Church on Sunday, June 14. During the service, the children shared their experience at vacation Bible school by singing the songs they learned. Following the service the church family enjoyed lemonade on the lawn.
The annual Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church will be held June 17-20 in Harrisonburg. Two former ministers of the Collierstown Charge ‒ the Rev. Doug Mitchell and the Rev. Jim Bollinger ‒ will be retiring. Both served faithfully the Collierstown and Mt. Horeb congregations.
Weekly Bible study resumed at Collierstown United Methodist Church on Tuesday evening, June 16, and continued today, Wednesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. Both groups will be studying I Samuel. All are invited to participate.
Thirty-five years ago, on March 26, 1991, the Effinger Ruritan Club and the seven community churches dedicated the Chapel at Lake Robertson. T his mission outreach was established to provide an opportunity for Christian worship to summer-season campers. Community churches providing leadership this summer are asked to contact or text Roger Lees at (540) 784-9000 with the Sunday dates they will be leading the weekly lake service. Community residents are also invited to attend and participate in the Sunday services.
