W&L Professor Guest On Podcast

W&L Professor Guest On Podcast

Jeff Kosky, professor of religion at Washington and Lee University, recently served as a featured guest on the podcast “Visually Sacred: Conversations on the Power of Images,” hosted by Arthur Aghajanian.

Kosky joins Aghajanian for the eighth episode of the podcast’s fourth season, which focuses on material religion.

The episode is titled “Material Wonder” and featured the duo conversing about how art can mediate the invisible, evoke wonder and challenge the disenchantment of modernity. Kosky shared his experiences with significant artworks and how they inspired a contemplative way of seeing, emphasizing the heart as a site of spiritual encounter. The dialogue also touched on material religion, the sacredness of everyday life and the interplay between philosophy and art in understanding meaning in a secular age.

“Visually Sacred” is a podcast dedicated to exploring how images influence our understanding of reality and the sacred through conversations with thought leaders on art, visual culture and religion. Each episode delves into different areas of visual theology, opening to spiritual wisdom while deconstructing an image-saturated world. The podcast is supported by Radix Magazine and the Foundation for Spirituality and the Arts.

Kosky has been a member of the W&L faculty since 2003. He previously worked at Redmoon Theater, a visual spectacle production company, in Chicago. He earned a bachelor of arts from Williams College and a doctorate from the University of Chicago Divinity School.
