About 30 people turned out for Saturday’s “Water in Action: A Live Monitoring Experience” at Jordans Point Park sponsored by Rockbridge Conservation. The event allowed the public to see how scientists and volunteers monitor the health of local streams and rivers. Among the scenes were (clockwise from top left) John Pancake with Rockbridge Water Monitors and David Agnor with Friends of Woods Creek collecting insects from the river; David Hopkins with Rockbridge Water Monitors searching for Mayflies; a Mayfly; Pancake looking for insects on a net; Hopkins explaining how the health of streams is determined by the insects retrieved from nets; and Pancake and Agnor returning with insects they had just collected.
