‘Consigners’ Showcase’ At Cahoots

Fifteen local and regional artists will be featured for the month of June in “2026 Consignors’ Showcase” at Artists in Cahoots in Lexington. The opening reception is this Friday, June 5, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The display highlights a wide range of threedimensional work from the artists who consign their art to the shop, including Katherine Benner, Rebecca Dale, Neil Duman, Norma Geddes, Elizabeth Gordon, Jane Fancher Hendley, Barbara Coyle Holt, Noah Hughey, Molly Lyons, Dana Masters, John Owen, Alex Pettigrew, Anne Scarpa McCauley, Willie Simmons (in memoriam) and Frank Welles.

Among the many and varied objects on display is a meticulous hand-crafted, stained and blown glass panel, “My Blue Heaven,” by Richmond artist Norma Geddes. It is made from intricately patterned chunks of glass broken off the end of the pipes used by glass blowers. These chunks were arranged on a clear glass pallet and fused together in a kiln at 1,500F. She then foiled and soldered those circles and half circles into a stained-glass panel yielding an other-worldly effect of clusters of celestial objects. Geddes’ artistic technique incorporates “Wabi Sabi,” a Japanese term meaning “Beauty from imperfection, impermanence, and simplicity.”

Noah Hughey-Commers, will be showing a wood-fired pottery piece, “Teapot,” made of stoneware with layers of rich, earth-colored glazes. Hughey was born and raised in the mountains of Nelson County, where he now lives and works.

The artist works in his studio, Muddy Creek Pottery, where he makes pots and hosts firings for a community of potters who continue to learn about and explore the nuances of wood firing pottery.
