Patricia DeLaney, city treasurer for Lexington, was one of five people from the 6th District elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in New York City.
--- Lexington agreed to buy a $6,100 panel truck that would be used by the city’s fire department to transport firemen to the scene of a blaze. The decision to buy the truck followed a “stormy and occasionally emotional” debate between City Councilman Thomas C. Imeson II and fire chief Charles Conner.
--- John Gilbert was appointed Buena Vista city manager at a special meeting of Council. He had been the acting manager since Council discharged Harold Gesell.

Buena Vista City Council adopted a budget and set the real estate tax rate for the next fiscal year at 89 cents per $100 assessed value, a penny below what it had been.
--- A contract was signed turning over 44.5 acres in the Rockbridge Regional Industrial Park to the city of Buena Vista, protecting the park and the city from Mead-Westvaco building a distribution center there.
--- Marshall Fishwick died. The pop culture pioneer had taught at W&L from 1949 to 1962.
