Sponsors Sought For Fireworks

Planning for the local 250th Independence Day celebration, including fireworks, is well underway. The July 4th committee of the Buena Vista Rotary and Lexington Sunrise Rotary clubs has been working out the details and contracting vendors to create an event worthy of this special American anniversary.

Josh Elrod said, “We are very pleased that Eric Mogensen, president of Zoofari Parks, the operators of the Virginia Safari Park, has pledged financial support to underwrite the major activities at Glen Murray Park, and will be the Named Sponsor of the celebration. Additional support has been pledged by CornerStone Bank, Spencer Home Center, Washington and Lee University, Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital, and Virginia Military Institute. The city of Buena Vista generously supports the celebration with financial support for the fireworks and Glen Maury Park grounds crews.”

The Rotary clubs are seeking additional community sponsorships to cover the estimated $20,000 expenses for the celebration. Sponsorships and donations are tax-deductible through the Rotary Club Lexington Lunch Foundation. Those wishing to make donations can call Elrod at (540) 817-3330.

Returning by popular request, the Party Crasher Band will provide the evening’s entertainment beginning at 6:30.

John Cosgrove, president of Master Display Fireworks of Roanoke, said, “We are looking forward to this year’s show. This is our 16th season in Rockbridge, and the 20-minute fireworks show will feature several new displays.”

The fireworks show will begin at 9:30 p.m.
