May 20, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: President Trump’s war with Iran has served to keep our focus on what is even worse: the imminent threat to a 250-year-old democracy in which all persons are equal and protected under the rule of law.
The loss of this successful witnessing of and call to equality would be catastrophic for the world’s humanity.
The president’s mental unbalance has been taken advantage of by some who, backed by international wealth, believe in an autocratic, topdown system of government. They have —immorally and perhaps criminally — given him wrong advice.
Their blueprint is the Project 2025, published by the Heritage Society. Some of its members are even in the current administration, and they should be called to testify under oath before our Congress. R. JOHN BLACKLEY Lexington
