W&L Fourth In NCAA
The Washington and Lee University women’s golf team placed fourth at the NCAA Division III national women’s golf championships on Friday in Palm Desert, Calif.
It was the team’s highest finish ever at the NCAA tournament. The 10th-ranked Generals had a four-day total of 22-over 1,174. Emory won the title with a 2-over 1,154, while Carnegie Mellon placed second with a 1,161, and New York University finished third with a 1,166. Rounding out the top five were W&L and Washington-St. Louis (1,175).
Carleton’s Carter Sichol won the individual crown with a 5-under 283. W&L freshman Toral Bhatt tied for 16th at 5-over 293. Southern Virginia University junior Sydney Richards tied for 27th at 8-over 296.
Guiding the Generals is third-year head coach Jane Hopkinson-Wood, while fifthyear head coach Blair Gardner leads SVU.
