Demonstrations Planned At Park
Rockbridge Conservation invites the community to attend “Water in Action: A Live Monitoring Experience,” a free event demonstrating how scientists and volunteers monitor the health of local streams and waterways in real time.
The event will take place this Saturday, May 30, from 10 a.m. to noon at Jordans Point pebble beach (northwest corner of the park) in Lexington. A rain date is scheduled for Sunday, May 31, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Part of Rockbridge Conservation’s ongoing 50th anniversary celebration, the event offers community members an opportunity to explore the science behind watershed protection through demonstration stations led by local experts and volunteers.
Attendees will be able to: ● Learn how aquatic insects reveal stream health; ● Observe chemical water quality testing; ● Explore stream habitat and physical condition monitoring; ● Learn about bacteria and emerging contaminants, including E. coli and PFAS.
The event is designed to be approachable and engaging for all ages and experience levels. Visitors are welcome to stop by for a few minutes or stay for the full program.
“Healthy waterways are essential to the health of our community, our ecosystems, and our local economy,” said Jamie Goodin, executive director of Rockbridge Conservation. “This event is an opportunity for people to see firsthand how RC’s ongoing water monitoring works, meet the volunteers and experts involved, and better understand the importance of long-term stewardship of our streams and rivers.”
Rockbridge Conservation has supported watershed education and water-quality monitoring efforts in the region for decades, working alongside volunteers, partner organizations, and community members to better understand and protect local waterways.
