A structure fire last Tuesday evening, May 19, destroyed a detached garage at a residence north of Buena Vista but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the house.
Nathan Ramsey, Rockbridge County fire-rescue chief, reported that at 7:15 that evening crews were dispatched to 172 Tiffany Drive for a structure fire. Upon arrival, the first fire units found a detached garage fully involved in fire. Crews initially focused on protecting the residence to prevent the fire from extending into the home before transitioning to extinguishing the fire at the garage.
Ramsey said the garage was a total loss, but the only damage to the house was minor damage to the siding. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was undetermined. Crews remained on scene until 8:54 p.m.
Departments responding included Buena Vista Fire Department, Lexington Fire Department, South River Fire Department, Natural Bridge Fire Department, Kerrs Creek Fire Department, Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue, Buena Vista Rescue Squad, Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office, and Virginia State Police.
The owner of the residence is Charles Secrist.
