No Serious Injuries
Drivers traveling through downtown Lexington Monday afternoon may have experienced delays due to the temporary closure of Nelson Street in front of the Rockbridge County Courthouse following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Nelson and Randolph streets. According to a report from the Lexington Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. when a Hyundai car traveling north on Randolph Street failed to stop at the red light and drove into the intersection, striking the rear quarter of a pickup truck traveling east on Nelson Street. The driver of the Hyundai then lost control of the car and crashed into the Rockbridge County Courthouse building, causing minor damage to the brick facade. The driver of the Hyundai was transported from the scene with minor injuries and issued a summons. The driver of the pickup truck was treated at the scene. Both vehicles were declared inoperable and towed from the scene.
