Lexington City Superintendent of Schools Raymond Chisolm resigned his position effective immediately. But at the request of the school board, he agreed to stay on until June 20 to give the board an opportunity to find a successor. - Virginia Military Institute cadet Ronnie Moore signed a three-year, sixfigure contract with the New York Jets. On that same day he graduated and got married. - Harry Wolf, a teacher at Parry McCluer Middle School, planned to open a record shop in the Lexington-Buena Vista Shopping Park. The name of the shop was The Flip Side.

Dr. Rebecca Gates signed a three-year contract as the new superintendent of Buena Vista schools. - Clarence Tardy, 85, died as a result of an accident at his Sun Valley Farm. His longtime friend W.R. “Tink” Deacon called Tardy “a really good friend who could really hold your attention.”
- Glasgow was looking at ways to improve the town’s recreational facilities while Lexington eyed buying four acres adjacent to Brewbaker Field for recreational purposes.
