Tuesday, May 19 -- The Rockbridge County High School boys soccer team secured a 3-0 victory over Fort Defiance at The Fields at Southern Virginia University in Buena Vista.
Cooper Fox bagged a brace, and Jonathan Roy also scored as the Wildcats (11-5 overall, 11-4 district) won for the fifth time in their last six matches.
Alex Candelario-Jose recorded seven saves in goal for the Indians (6-10, 6-9), while Jacob Wallace tallied five stops to earn the clean sheet for RC.
Fox put the Wildcats in front in the 14th minute, firing home after the 'Cats' initial corner-kick chance was deflected back to him near the top of the 18-yard box.
The 1-0 scoreline held for nearly an hour, with momentum swinging back and forth. For the match, RC held a 15-9 advantage in shots, while Fort posted an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
But the Wildcats would break the game open with a pair of late goals. Roy scored with nine minutes remaining, delivering a low curling finish from 20 yards out. And roughly a minute later, Fox pounced on a rebound after Jonathan Soriano Caceres' initial chance on a counterattack had been saved by Candelario-Jose.
Prior to the match, RC honored its senior class of Wallace, Noah Alexander, Patrick De Marcellus and Carlos Reynolds -- along with junior Colin Caputo, who is on track to graduate early.
RC will wrap up the regular season at Alleghany on Wednesday evening.
