Rockbridge Precinct Changes Approved

A plan to consolidate some of Rockbridge County’s voting precincts and change certain polling locations was approved Monday by the Board of Supervisors.

The changes, which have been discussed for months, originated with recommendations from the Rockbridge County Electoral Board to reduce costs associated with elections and to resolve Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility issues.

The changes are to take effect 30 days after adoption, which will be well before the next elections – party primaries on Aug. 4 to determine nominees for the Nov. 3 congressional elections.

The approved changes are as follows: Buffalo District – Combine the Airport and Ben Salem precincts and use Maury River Middle School as the polling location.

Natural Bridge District – Combine the Natural Bridge Station and Falling Springs precincts and use the Natural Bridge Elementary School as the polling location.

South River District – Move the Mountain View polling location from Neriah Baptist Church to Mountain View Elementary School. Combine the Fairfield and Vesuvius precincts and use Fairfield Elementary School as the polling location Kerrs Creek District – move the VoTech precinct polling location from Life Chapel Church to Rockbridge County High School.

Walkers Creek District – Move the Meadowview precinct polling place from Faith Mountain Baptist Church to Rockbridge County High School.

An earlier proposed change within the Walkers Creek District was eliminated – a proposal that would have combined the Rockbridge Baths and Rockbridge precincts into one precinct at the Fairfield Volunteer Rescue Squad building.
