PM Falls To JCA Again

Showing improvement, the Parry McCluer High School coed soccer team suffered a 3-0 road loss to Jefferson Christian Academy on Monday of last week in Ripplemead.

With the loss, the Fighting Blues fell to 0-4-0. It was the lowestscoring total given up by PM so far this season. JCA, which had beaten PM 5-1 on April 20 in Buena Vista, scored two goals in the first half of the rematch.

“Their team had some chances, but we played better defense,” said PM head coach Chuck Rice.

The PM coach said freshman goalkeeper Cameron Glass “made some really good saves in the first half for the Blues.”

“He did a really good job,” said Rice of Glass, who played the entire game and finished with 10 saves. “He’s getting better, improving each game.”

The Blues got a couple of opportunities to score in the second half, but they weren’t able to convert, and the Cardinals scored one more goal. Rice said the Cardinals “were very solid with their offense.”

Rice said the Blues are “improving each game.” One of the keys to that improvement has been switching to a 4-4-2 formation, featuring four defenders, four midfielders and two strikers. Rice moved Gabe Osorio to center back, and the Blues have gotten strong defense from Seven Medina.

Moving forward, the Blues are looking to get “more offensive firepower,” said Rice. “We’re kind of crammed together with not much room.”

PM had two home games scheduled last week, on Wednesday against Boys Home of Virginia and Friday against Eastern Montgomery, that were postponed due to weather and other factors.

The Blues, who were 0-1-0 in the Pioneer District going into this week, were scheduled to play host to Pioneer District rival Narrows last night and will play host to Boys Home of Virginia on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. PM will continue district action at Eastern Montgomery on Monday, also at 5:30 p.m.
