The Rockbridge County High School girls tennis team lost a pair of Shenandoah District matches last week, falling 6-3 at Waynesboro last Monday before suffering an 8-1 setback at home against Alleghany on Thursday. With the losses, the Wildcats fell to 0-13, both overall and in the district.
At Waynesboro (8-6 overall and district), RC’s Corinna Allen won 8-6 at No. 1 singles, and Claire Taylor picked up an 8-1 victory at No. 5. At No. 3 doubles, Charlotte Taylor and Eliana Osbourne teamed up for an 8-3 win.
Against Alleghany (11-2 overall and district), the Wildcats’ only win came at No. 3 doubles, where Diya Gandhi and Mila Baker teamed up for an 8-4 victory.
The Wildcats were scheduled to play at Wilson Memorial on Monday and will continue district action at home against Stuarts Draft on Thursday before concluding the regular season at Buffalo Gap on Monday, with both contests starting at 4:30 p.m. Before the match against Draft, the Wildcats will honor their three seniors: Allen, Bella Fitch and Claire Taylor.
