Brownsburg Community Association’s Barn Dance May 9
The Brownsburg Community Association is “swinging” into spring with a barn dance at Wades Mill on Saturday, May 9, from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
The event includes a meal from Hogback Mountain BBQ followed by The Late Night Stumblers, Rockbridge County’s hometown band, playing an eclectic mix of country, Americana and rock and roll.
The barn dance is a fundraiser for the BCA’s annual scholarship program. Two $1,200 scholarships will be awarded this year to local high school graduates to attend a degree-granting institution or a vocational center to further their education. The BCA has awarded $15,500 in scholarships to 19 students since 2017. More information on the scholarship program can be found at https:// www.brownsburgva.com/copy-of-bylaws.
The Barn at Wades Mill is the former Patterson Mill, moved from its original location on Hays Creek in Brownsburg to its current location in 1906 and refurbished in 2021.
Since mills had always been a focal point for the community, where neighbors would gather and share news, it is an appropriate place for the BCA’s fundraiser, said a spokeswoman. “Attendees can enjoy delicious food, great music and ‘mill’ around, all in support of the community,” she said.
