Moore Pitches Perfect Game To Lead RC Softball Over Staunton, 21-0

Fueled by 18 hits and a perfect game by senior pitcher Sadie Moore, the Rockbridge County High School softball team coasted to a 21-0 home win in five innings over Shenandoah District rival Staunton on Tuesday evening in Lexington.

Moore pitched a complete game for the Wildcats (8-3 overall, 5-4 district), striking out 13 of 15 batters she faced and allowing no hits and no walks.

With the victory, the Wildcats completed a sweep of the season series with Storm (0-12, 0-9). When the teams met on April 13 in Staunton, RC won 26-0 in five innings.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the first inning before racking up 10 runs in the second, and they added three in the third and four in the fourth.

Leading RC with three hits each were Moore, Page Wright, and Lilly Thomas, who led the Wildcats with four RBIs. 

In the monster second inning, Brooke Hostetter hit an RBI triple on a fly ball to left field, Thomas brought in three runs with a triple, and Wright and Bella Dorey each hit a solo inside-the-park home run, Wright to right field and Dorey to center field. Moore hit a solo home run to center field to lead off the Wildcats in the third inning.  

On the mound for Staunton, Bailey Flory pitched a complete game, striking out four while surrendering 18 hits, seven walks and 18 earned runs.

The Storm committed two errors, while the Wildcats had none.

The Wildcats will continue district action when they play at Waynesboro on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
