Wave Tops Parry McCluer, 7-1

Showing improvement in its first Pioneer District game of the season, the Parry McCluer High School coed soccer team suffered a 7-1 road loss to Narrows on Tuesday of last week.

The Fighting Blues fell to 0-2-0. After losing to district rival Eastern Montgomery 3-0 on Thursday, the Green Wave ended the week at 3-7-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the district.

Narrows scored the first four goals of the game. Late in the first half, PM’s lone senior, Gabe Osorio, scored from the Narrows goalkeeper’s left side, on an assist from sophomore Eddie Robinson.

The Green Wave led 4-1 at halftime and scored three goals in the second half, with the final goal coming with about two minutes left in the game.

PM freshman goalkeeper A.J. Roberts made 11 saves.

Proud of his team for making progress from their season opener, a 10-1 loss at Boys Home of Virginia on April 9 in Covington, PM head coach Chuck Rice said, “We played much better on defense, even with a team of mostly freshmen.”

“We will continue to work and get better,” added Rice.

The Blues were scheduled to play host to Jefferson Christian Academy on Monday at Bobby Williams Field in Buena Vista, and they’ll play at Jefferson Christian Academy next Monday at 6 p.m. in Ripplemead.
