Youth Theater Presenting Two Musicals
The Blue Forest Theatre Academy will present two productions the second weekend in May: “Footloose: The Musical ‒ Teen Edition” and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “School of Rock: Youth Edition.”
Both will be performed at the Lenfest Center at Washington and Lee University.
Based on the beloved 1984 film, “Footloose” tells the story of Ren McCormack, a teenage boy from Chicago, who moves to a small town where a local tragedy led to dancing and popular music being banned. Ren seeks to change the minds of the townspeople, and to bring joy back to Bomont.
The musical celebrates resilience, wisdom, and the power of forgiveness, while showcasing the talent of young actors from the Rockbridge community.
The cast will present three performances, Friday, May 8, at 5 p.m.; Saturday, May 9, at 3 p.m.; and Saturday, May 9, at 7 p.m.
“School of Rock: Youth Edition” is a dynamic, one-hour version of the musical based on the hit movie, designed especially for young performers.
The tuner follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a guitarshredding, bass-slapping, mindblowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out? You’ve got to come find out for yourself.
The cast will present two performances, Friday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, May 9, at noon.
