Former Buena Vista city manager Harold Gesell was looking for work following his dismissal by city council. - Buena Vista City Council agreed to finance its share of the cost of construction of a $21 million flood wall around the city. - Virginia Military Institute librarian Lt. Col. George B. Davis was suspended from his duties as a result of an investigation by the Virginia State Police concerning a collection of books missing from the institute’s library. Davis had just announced his intention to retire, move to New York state and become a rare books dealer.

Sarah Paxton, a senior at Rockbridge County High School, won regional honors in the Farm Bureau Insurance-Virginia High School League Achievement Awards program. She was recognized for her achievements in athletic and academic activities.
- Kelsi Elizabeth Martin was crowned Little Miss Rockbridge at a pageant held at Maury River Middle School.
- Glasgow residents came out in droves to a town council meeting to air their concerns about the town’s cat overpopulation problem.
