Spring Flower Walk At Brushy Hills

Spring Flower Walk At Brushy Hills
MARY JANE EPPS, natural areas biologist for the Virginia Natural Heritage Program, will lead this Sunday’s walk at the Brushy Hills Preserve.

A spring flower walk will be offered at the Brushy Hills Preserve this Sunday, April 19, at 1 p.m. led by Dr. Mary Jane Epps, natural areas biologist for the Virginia Natural Heritage Program.

Over two and half hours, Epps will point out wildflowers, signs of insects, fungi, and other spring activity. Special emphasis will be placed on species interactions and ecology, in addition to basic identification tips.

The walk will be limited to 25 participants, so those interested should visit www.friendsofbrushyhills.org to sign up.

Walkers will meet at the parking lot by the springhouse, 1010 Union Run, before heading out on the trails. The Preserve parking lot is small, so consider carpooling if you’re able.

This walk is part of the 40th anniversary of the Virginia Natural Heritage Program and is sponsored by the Friends of Brushy Hills, a volunteer organization whose mission is to protect the natural integrity of Brushy Hills for the benefit of the public. By agreement with the city of Lexington, the Friends serve as stewards of the Preserve.
