The Rockbridge County School Board has initiated a nationwide search for the division’s next superintendent and is inviting community members to help inform the process.
Phillip Thompson, the school system’s current superintendent, is retiring at the end of the calendar year.
As the Board works to identify a leader who will guide the future of the school division, it is seeking input on the qualities, characteristics, and priorities that matter most to the community, according to a press release from the school division.
To gather feedback, the School Board has launched a community survey focused on superintendent qualifications. The survey is available online at https://www. surveymonkey.com/r/Rockbridge-Search26 and is also accessible via the division’s website homepage.
Printed copies of the survey are available at all school main offices as well as the Central Office reception area. All responses must be submitted by Monday, April 27.
In addition, the School Board will host a public hearing to provide another opportunity for community input on May 12 at 5 p.m. at the county administration building in Lexington.
“We are committed to finding a superintendent who reflects the values, expectations, and aspirations of our entire community,” said Kathy Burant, chair of the School Board. “Hearing directly from our families, staff, and residents will help ensure we select a leader who is prepared to build on our strengths and move the division forward with purpose.”
The School Board has partnered with the Virginia School Boards Association to assist with the superintendent search process.
