The Rockbridge County High School boys lacrosse team suffered a 17-9 home loss to a tough Patrick Henry team on Monday night in Lexington.
Grayden Brown led the Wildcats (2-2) with five goals, while Parker Flint, Malcolm Forbes, Pat Looney and Andrew Kelly each scored one goal. Miles Holland dished out two assists to lead RC, and Kelly had one assist.
The game was close early on, with RC taking a 2-1 lead after goals by Looney and Kelly. The Patriots (4-2) then tied it at 2-2 just under four-and-half minutes into the game. PH then took advantage of RC mistakes and a Wildcat penalty to score six more goals in the first quarter, taking an 8-2 lead into the second quarter.
Each team scored two goals in the second quarter, and the Patriots took a 10-4 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, PH outscored RC 6-1 to extend its lead to 16-5.
The Wildcats had a strong finish, outscoring the Patriots 4-1 in the fourth quarter, with Brown putting in two goals.
PH’s Quinn McCahill led all scorers with seven goals, while Owen McNeil scored three goals, and Oscar Barham chipped in two.
In goal for RC, senior Chase Pooley played most of the game and made 18 saves. Junior Finbar Looney replaced Pooley in the second half and made four saves. For PH, Lucas Maxey made six saves.
The Wildcats will play host to Franklin County on Wednesday, starting with junior varsity action at 5:30 p.m., with the varsity game scheduled to follow at 7.
