The Lions Den restaurant was set to open in the basement of the Lexington Motel. -A Washington and Lee University theater department production of the musical “1776” drew enthusiastic crowds with at many as 1,350 people attending the five performances.
- Water came spurting out onto West Nelson Street after Lexington city crews found a rusted water pipe. Rusted and worn-out water lines were being replaced as part of Lexington’s street improvement program.

An apartment complex marketed to married Southern Virginia University students was proposed for a vacant spot below the campus at the intersection of Magnolia and Park avenues.
- Nelson Fox, coach of Parry McCluer High School’s boys basketball team, was one of eight finalists for the National High School Coaches Association’s Coach of the
Year award.
- Lexington residents had good news about their public water systems. The haloacetic acids that had once been a concern were well within standards established by the Virginia Department of Health.
