Senior Mary Schleusner of the Washington and Lee University women’s basketball was named the D3hoops. com Division III Women’s Player of the Year on March 21 while garnering First Team All-America laurels. Three days later, she was named the recipient of the Jostens Trophy.
Schleusner is the first player in program history to be named Player of the Year by D3hoops. com while securing her third straight All-America honor from the organization. In addition, Schleusner was also named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Coaches All-America Team earlier this week.
The Jostens Trophy awards are national awards created by the Rotary Club of Salem and sponsored by Jostens, Inc., to recognize the most outstanding men’s and women’s Division III basketball players of the year. The awards focus on three major criteria: basketball ability, academic prowess and service to one’s surrounding communities. The Jostens Trophy models the Rotary International motto of “Service Above Self” by recognizing those who truly fit the ideal of a well-rounded Division III student-athlete. The 2026 season marks the 28th time the Jostens Trophy honors have been awarded.
These awards add to a lengthy list of awards she has received this season, including Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player and Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-ODAC, D3hoops.com First Team All-Region and Region 6 Player of the Year. Schleusner led the Generals this season with 21.2 points per game and 17.0 rebounds while posting a teamhigh 66 blocks and 63 steals. She recorded a double-double in 29 of her 30 games played this season, which led all NCAA divisions. She also led the nation in rebounds (528) while ranking second in field goals (261), points (657), and defensive rebounds per game (11.3).
Schleusner became the all-time leading rebounder and career leader in double-doubles in NCAA Division III history while ranking seventh in rebounding average with 16.3 and seventh in career points with 2,483. In addition, she ranks second in all NCAA divisions in career rebounds (1,992) and third in double-doubles (97).
