April will feature an exhibition of a new artist to Nelson Gallery, Nancy Newhard.
Her work is wide-ranging in both subject matter and technique, yet always fresh and expressive, said a spokesperson.
She began painting in the mid 1970s, first in watercolor, then oil – exploring both what the medium could do, and what was inside her artistically. Whatever the medium, inherent in all her work is a love of texture and transparency, said the spokesperson. Her subject matter is equally eclectic, as she puts it: rocks, water, land and skies –essentially the world of a landscape painter.
She went to Longwood College for a bachelor of arts degree and then went on to earn an master’s degree in art education from Radford University. She has exhibited widely, in many galleries, and won major awards for her work.
An opening reception for the exhibit will be held this Friday, April 3, at 5 p.m.
