On Good Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m., the Southern Virginia University Chamber Singers will present “I Stand All Amazed,” an Easter cantata by composer Sally DeFord, in observance of Holy Week.
Hosted at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1340 Thornhill Road, Lexington), this performance is free.
Under the direction of Dr. Benjamin Gaughran, the ensemble will offer this non-denominational Christian work that traces the life, miracles, suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through a blend of narration and music, “I Stand All Amazed” invites audiences into a reflective and spiritually resonant experience of the Easter story.
The performance will feature Southern Virginia University faculty — professor Megan Mason, Dr. Hyrum Arnesen, and Dr. Barbara Van Kuiken —alongside student performers.
“This is more than a concert — it is an invitation to encounter the story of Easter in a deeply personal and meaningful way,” said Gaughran. “Our hope is that all who attend will leave with a renewed sense of peace, hope, and reverence.”
