Churches Celebrate Holy Week

Music For Holy Week At LPC

Lexington Presbyterian Church will offer a short musical meditation for Holy Week on Thursday, April 2, at noon in the church sanctuary.

Joining organist William McCorkle will be a group of singers from Washington and Lee University. Repertoire for the meditation will consist of settings of Holy Week texts by Allegri, Duruflé, Kuhnau, Rachmaninoff, and de Grigny.

Trinity United

Methodist Church

Holy Week events at Trinity United Methodist Church continue with a Maundy Thursday service with communion at 6 p.m.

On Good Friday, Trinity will join St. John’s and Randolph Street United Methodist churches for a joint Tenebrae service at 7:30 p.m. at St. John’s, 351 E. 21st St. in Buena Vista. This service will include the reading of the Passion story and the extinguishing of candles.

Easter Sunday will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with traditional worship with Holy Communion.

St. John’s

Episcopal Church

St. John’s Episcopal Church in Glasgow will mark Good Friday with a Stations of the Cross service at 5 p.m.

Presiding will be the Rev. Dr. Bob Copenhaver, who was ordained as a priest at this parish church in 1963.

Rockbridge

Church

Rockbridge Church is hosting an Easter Festival on Saturday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brewbaker Field in Lexington.

The event will feature egg hunts by age with over 10,000 eggs. There also will be tattoos, crafts, a train for kids, games, a petting zoo and two food trucks with food to purchase.

Life Chapel

Life Chapel’s Easter events will include an Easter service on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m., followed by family photos, Easter brunch, Pops on the Playground, and a Kids Peep Battle.

Fincastle Baptist

The Fincastle Baptist Church – Rockbridge Campus is inviting the community to celebrate Easter weekend with two events, one of which is in partnership with Buena Vista Parks and Recreation.

The weekend begins with a community Easter Festival on Saturday, April 4, from noon to 3 p.m. at Glen Maury Park. The free family event will feature 20,000 Easter eggs, food trucks, inflatables, door prizes, face painting, pony rides, balloon animals, a magic show, and live music.

Easter celebrations will continue on Sunday, April 5, at the church’s new location, the Stone Church in Buena Vista. A sunrise service will begin at 7 a.m., followed by breakfast. A second Easter worship service will be held at 11 a.m.

Community

Easter Service

The Lexington-Rockbridge Ministerial Alliance will sponsor a community sunrise Easter worship service at 7 a.m. at Randolph Street United Methodist Church, located 118 S. Randolph St.

The Easter celebrant will be Rev. Jason Kriaski, associate minister, Grace Presbyterian Church. A hot breakfast will be served immediately following the worship service.

Haines Chapel

Haines Chapel, 2682 Tye River Turnpike, Vesuvius, will host its old-time church and Easter sunrise service beginning at 6:30 a.m.

Arden Harner, former pastor of Hermitage Chapel, will bring the Easter message. Prelude music on the vintage pump organ will begin at 6:15 a.m. Kenmar Alexander will accompany singing, playing the piano during the service.
