Clayton, Macdonald To Discuss New Book

Rockbridge Regional Library will host author Sarah Clayton and illustrator Bruce Macdonald on Wednesday, April 8, at 5:15 p.m. for a presentation and reading.

Clayton’s book, “Duncan of Pigweed Manor: Coming of Age in a Time of Turmoil” with illustrations by Macdonald, is available for checkout from any branch of the Rockbridge Regional Library system.

The story, part fable, part allegory, part fairytale, is one of the struggle of good over evil, and can appeal to young and old alike. Tenyear- old Duncan, along with his animal friends, lives in a tumbled down castle called Pigweed Manor. Threatened by a wicked witch, Duncan must embark on a hero journey in order to save his home and friends. Through the text and many color illustrations, readers get a glimpse at a world reminiscent of childhood but with archetypal themes.

Clayton, an award-winning journalist with work spanning over 50 years, has been published in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Baltimore Sun, San Francisco Chronicle, National Public Radio, and various travel magazines. Macdonald has drawn and painted many subjects, from flamenco dancers in Spain to ancient churches and castles in Europe, and most recently the scenery and people of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, where he lives.

They will welcome questions and comments and books will be available for purchase after the presentation.
