Fruit Tree Seminar
Fruit trees are a favorite pursuit and landscape feature for many people. Successfully nurturing fruit trees to thrive and yield edible fruit requires careful planning and consideration of the type of fruit and the location where the trees are expected to grow.
Next week, Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m., the Rockbridge County Extension Office will host a tree fruit selection and establishment seminar led by local orchardist George Persinger. Mr. Persinger has extensive knowledge and experience of tree fruit with particular expertise in heirloom varieties.
There will be a follow-up session on Friday, April 10, at the Persinger Orchard in Rockbridge Baths at 2 p.m. where participants can gain hands-on experience planting new trees and pruning existing trees.
The Wednesday seminar will be held at the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Community Building located at 73 Sam Houston Way. The program will begin at 6 p.m. with a light supper. Cost of attending the program is $25 per person and includes participation in the Friday infield program.
