March 18, 2026 Editor, The News-Gazette: I was watching CNN and some of the other liberal stations this morning. All they could do was criticize how the government was handling the conflict in Iran. For 47 years our country has done nothing but provide lip service for the terrorists in Iran who not only terrorize their own citizens, but the entire world. Donald Trump was the first president who actually implemented actions that should have been done decades ago.
There have been nine presidents since the terrorist took over Iran in 1979. Every one of them stood in front of the camera bellowing about how bad Iran was and that we would do whatever it took to make sure they didn’t become a nuclear nation. The words they spoke were as hollow as their self-centered hearts.
Now we have a president with backbone, values, and compassion for all humans. He will give Iran back to its citizens, ensure fair elections and opportunity for the future. He has begun that process in Venezuela also. Marco Rubio is just beginning that task in Cuba. There are hundreds of millions of people in those countries who will always be grateful to the United States for finally standing up for what is right. God bless America. GEORGE N. GATES Lexington
