The Rockbridge Youth Chorale presents its 25th anniversary spring concert on Tuesday, March 31, 7:30 p.m. at Lexington Presbyterian Church.
Admission is a suggested minimum donation of $5 per student or child, $10 per adult, or $25 per family. Doors open at 7:10 p.m. This is a family friendly event.
This concert will feature the Children’s Choir directed by Katelyn Roll, and the Youth Choir directed by Lacey R. Lynch. Both choirs receive additional support by student interns Kailesh Amilcar, Maggie Eaton, Paris Guerrero and John Paul Hammond; Dr. Anna Billias, collaborative pianist; and Bill Zheng, percussion.
The Children’s Choir will present rounds, partner songs, and a whole set devoted to animal songs that is sure to delight. They will share favorite pieces from over the years, as well as a piece which incorporates the melody of Beethoven’s “Pathetique Sonata.”
The Youth Choir will present two sets of literature for the spring concert. The first is a themed set centered around weather with staging, lighting effects, movement and body percussion. The Youth Choir’s second set features pieces that have been favorites of the RYC over the years, including “Bhombela,” a traditional Zulu song and stick game, “Dream Keeper” by Rollo Dilworth and “How Can I Keep from Singing,” a traditional spring closing piece since 2009 featuring the children’s and youth choirs.
The RYC is supported by Washington and Lee University’s community grant, the Rockbridge Choral Society board of directors, and many donors.
