Rockbridge Bird Club’s plans to bird along the Buena Vista River Walk last month were thwarted by winter weather. But with winter having finally rounded the corner into spring, members are planning to visit this “very birdy” location on Saturday morning to welcome migrant birds that might be returning.
A well-maintained up-and-back gravel path runs atop the flood wall overlooking the Maury and offers lovely views of the river. Birders will be looking for a variety of waterfowl, including Green and Great Blue Herons, Wood Ducks, and Canada Geese. They’ll also explore the riparian buffer for Eastern Wood-pewee, Pileated Woodpeckers, Belted Kingfishers, and wood warblers.
All member-guided outings are free of charge and open to members and nonmembers alike, with or without birding experience.
Birders will meet at 8 am at the Glen Maury Park entrance and should bring binoculars and wear sturdy shoes. In the event of rain, the walk will be canceled. For more information or weather update, visit Rockbridge Bird Club on Facebook or www. rockbridgebirdclub.org.
