Microplastics are now found in our water, our food, the air we breathe — and even inside the human body.
On Thursday, April 2, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., Rockbridge Conservation invites the community to explore what that means at a free public seminar titled “Plastic is Convenient – At What Cost to Human Health?” The event will be held at the RC Theater, 12 Nelson St., in Lexington.
Featured speaker Jaimi McPeek, environmental educator, wildlife researcher, and legislative director for the Virginia Bottle Bill, will present a 40-minute overview of: ● How plastics move through ecosystems — and into the human body; ● What researchers are discovering about microplastics and health; ● The impact on wildlife and biodiversity; ● How everyday choices and local policy can make a real difference.
The program concludes with a question-and-answer period. “We’re excited to welcome Jaimi’s enthusiasm and expertise to our community as we explore this important public health issue,” said Jamie Goodin, executive director of Rockbridge Conservation. “Plastic pollution affects all of us. I hope everyone will consider attending to learn more about what the science tells us — and how we can work together on practical solutions.”
This event is part of Rockbridge Conservation’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2026. Throughout the year, the organization is hosting monthly socials and conservation education programs that highlight five decades of protecting the region’s natural resources. Community members are encouraged to stay tuned to RockbridgeConservation.org and follow Rockbridge Conservation on social media for upcoming events.
