A house fire Thursday night destroyed a residence on Old Alleghany Circle and left one dog dead, according to Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue Chief Nathan Ramsey.

Crews were dispatched at 8:06 p.m. to 55 Old Alleghany Circle, where firefighters from the Goshen Fire Department arrived to find heavy fire throughout the single-story home. The blaze was quickly brought under control, Ramsey said.

No human injuries were reported, but one dog died in the fire. The home is considered a total loss, and the Red Cross is assisting the family.

The cause of the fire was determined to be related to an electric heater in a bathroom.

Crews remained on scene for approximately two hours and 45 minutes.

Assisting agencies included the Goshen Rescue Squad, Rockbridge Baths Fire Department, Kerrs Creek Fire Department, Craigsville Fire Department, Millboro Fire Department and Rockbridge County Fire-Rescue.
