Subdivision Planned In Poplar Hill Area

A 15-lot residential subdivision is planned for a tract of land near the intersection of Wesley Chapel Road (Va. 699) and Poplar Hill Road (Va. 801), south of U.S. 60, between Lexington and Buena Vista.

The tract of land is on the west side of Wesley Chapel Road and the north side of Poplar Hill Road. It consists of 16.68 acres, with proposed lots ranging between 1.0 and 2.117 acres. The tract is part of a 60.238-acre parcel owned by David Ahrens of Lynchburg.

All proposed lots have frontage along existing public roads and no new roads are planned for the development. The property, in the Buffalo Creek magisterial district, is located in an R-1 general residential zoned district. Subdivisions with a minimum lot size of 1.0 acre are a by-right use with this zoning designation.

Engineered drainfields are planned and the lots are to be served by wells. At the March 11 meeting of the Planning Commission, two neighbors expressed concerns about how the development might impact their wells.

Ahrens has submitted an application for a standard subdivision. A preliminary plat was reviewed by the Planning Commission. A final plat is to be considered by the Board of Supervisors within 90 days.
