Friday- A woman and a male child died as a result of an overnight structure fire in Vesuvius, while a man and another male child have been flown to the University of Virginia for treatment.

Nathan Ramsey, Rockbridge County fire and rescue chief, reported the news this morning, noting that departments responded to the structure fire at 340 Tye River Turnpike at 2:44 a.m.

He said there is limited information at this time, but that the incident is under investigation by Virginia State Police.

Departments that responded included Raphine Fire Company, South River Fire Department, Rockbridge Baths Fire Department, Fairfield Rescue Squad, Kerrs Creek Fire Department, Lexington Fire Department, Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office and units from Riverheads and Middlebrook in Augusta County.
