Virginia Military Institute’s basketball team beat Richmond 41-33 to clinch the Southern Conference title. - While demolishing a large storage building behind First Baptist Church in Lexington, workers discovered a 1936 Pontiac hidden inside. - The Lexington Kenney’s was ready to welcome customers again after being closed for renovations following a fire in January.

Kenneth P. Ruscio was named Washington and Lee University’s 26th president. - The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors agreed to provide $7,500 for a maintenance fund for the proposed year-round pool, provided that Lexington City Council would do the same. - Karen Blackwell, a mainstay on area softball fields for more than 30 years, was inducted into the Virginia USSSA Hall of Fame.
